This was the first school building in Bells, Texas. It was known as
Gospel Ridge. The above photograph was taken in 1878.
The original photo was in the possession of Miss Hattie Belote.
Originally it was a three story hospital, built in 1882, by Doctors Puckett
and Briggs. The hospital closed three years later. An Addition was made to
the building and it was used as the Gospel Ridge School until 1907. Miss
Jennie Lanham was the first teacher. Mrs. Annie Gillespie was the town's
first Music teacher It was located at present day West Mc Farland St.
