Greenwood Jenkins Cemetery, People interested in keeping Cleared, 2008 A.D.
The Ballard family are working together to build a cemetery organization to take care of the Greenwood
Cemetery. It's something I've wanted for over 10 years when I first saw it in 1994.
Your family is remarkable and all of us thank you very much for all your efforts. I look forward to joining
you in keeping the area clean and cleaned out.
I think I will run up the first nice day (temps over 65), to meet Mr.
Barnett if he is available, and to get some pictures of a large number of the stones. I'll submit those
photos to the Cemetery Rootsweb for them to publish on the web.
I'd also like to map out the cemetery and eventually have some kind of apparatus just outside the gates
that indicates where each tombstone is located (weather proof, of course). This would be of great benefit to
any and all visitors.
Eventually I liked to plant some perennial flowers around the area that will come up each year. I've had
really good luck with a plant named Clematis that blooms profusely in pink, red, etc. Each plant has a
different color.
As we discussed, I've included some photos - the first is Joshua Pritchett about 1867, the second is
Joshua and his bride, Eliza Morton, on their wedding day 8 July 1869. The next photo is me when my husband
and I went up to meet Col. Langner and Rudene in 1994.
The last photo is a plot of the property itself. Joshua purchased the property in yellow shown as "A"
in 1867 then purchased the Edwards survey in
1874 shown as "B" on the east of the yellow property.
I was so glad to get to talk with you and look forward to combining efforts to make this cemetery as
beautiful and well-kept as we know it can be.

RE: Greenwood Cemetery
So you are the wonderful people who so courageously ventured in to clean the cemetery. We are all very thankful and would have joined you had we known you were doing it. The cemetery sits on what was my Great Grandfather, Joshua Daniel Pritchett's property fron 1867 until his death in 1902. That's when the Jenkins family bought it from his estate. The current owner married one of the Jenkins daughters and inherited it when she passed away. The big white house just south of the cemetery was built by my Great Grandfather for his bride in 1869.
I for one would enjoy helping in the cleanup anytime you want to do it. There are many Confederate Veterans, like my GGrandfather, that are buried there, and, out of respect for them if nothing else, it should be kept in viewable condition so people can visit if they want to do so. I'll get my husband to come, and will notify other Pritchett cousins in the area that their help is needed.
Hopefully, we will have some warmer weather soon. However, the weeds, etc., grow so fast in the cemetery, we need to do it before much growth can occur.
My phone is 972-721-0616 and email: goodgirl.bandit@verizon.net Please don't hesitate to contact me as soon as you have a possible date and I will clear the calendar if anything is in the way.
