1. Museum: your tour will begin in a museum built in April 1990, made possible by a grant
from the Clara Blackford-Smith foundation. This museum is filled with artifacts, gifts from
persons throughout Grayson County. Please take you time and see everything.

2. James George Thompson Home: Due east of the museum is the restored home of Grayson
County's first County Judge. Thompson came to Grayson County in the late 1830's and was
instrumental in setting up Grayson County at its inception on March 17, 1846. He built this
home on the extreme northern tip of the Preston Peninsula and shared it with his three wives,
his mother 18 children and four step-children.

3. Hendricks Home: the very large John Hendricks family arrived in Grayson County in late
1845. one of John's son, Jessie Elvis Hendricks, built the log cabin portion of the home in
1863. Rooms were added in the 1880's. The home was located near the old Shannon Church between
Denion and Sherman.

4. Bradley/Bodkin Cabin:Log Cabin built by Thomas Bradley around 1842. Thomas came to
Grayson County in 1883 with his parents, Rebecca Duberry and Seymour Bradley. He married twice,
first to Hannah Eleanor Bell and second to Margaret Pounds. He reared 14 children in this one room
cabin. Denison. The Cabin was built in 1857.

5. Evans/Carpenter Cabin: Moved to the Village in 1985 from the Cherry Mound community east
of Denison. The cabin was built in 1857.

6. Country Store: Depicts of a typical Texas store of the 1840's to 1860's.

7. Blacksmith Shop: A necessary part of any early day Texas community, the blacksmith shop
contains a large display of early day tools and a blacksmith forge. Eisenhower birthplace replica
is also found there.

8. Fitzgerald House: This charming two-story home was moved to the village in 1990 from
Thompson Heights near Lake Texoma. It was original moved to the Thompson Heights location from near
Bells in eastern Grayson County.

9. Bullock/Bass House: Greek Revival style house was built just off the square on Travis
Street in Sherman in 1858 by Dr. Randolph L. Bullock. It is said to have the first glass
windows in Grayson County. Miss Nettie Bass lived in the house for 97 years.

10. Cold Springs School House: The Bledsoe Holder family who emigrated to Texas in the mid
1840's recognized the need for education. They built this schoolhouse on the southeast corner
of today's Harvey Lane and Crawford Street Road just west of Denison before they built their
own home.

11. Sophie's Cabin: Sophia Augenbaugh Coffee Butts Porter came to Grayson County in the late
1830's with her second husband Holland Coffee. This cabin, built from remaining logs of the
mansion that Coffee later built for her, depicts her own description of her first home at old
Preston.

12 & 13. Early Day Dentist Office and Barber Shop

14. William Lankford Home: William Lankford, a veteran of the Texas War for Independence
and one of the first five County Commissioners of Grayson County, built this home in 1847. He
hauled the milled lumber from Jefferson to his land east of Denison where the home was
originally located.

15. Price Shaw Cabin: Once located on the Dugan Survey northeast of Bells, this is a typical
dog-trot cabin of the 1830's - 1840's. This is the only true dog-trot house at the Village.

16. Davis/Ansley Cabin: Micajah Davis, one of the first white settlers on Grayson County soil,
built this cabin just off Ansley Lane round 1838. At times his family lived in the cabin, and at
times they retired to Ft. Warren for protection against the Indians. Rev. Sumner Bacon formed the
Pilot Knob Presbyterian Church in the Davis Cabin and it is said that Sam Houston often visited the
home.
